Interview

Glean FDE interview guide

Glean Forward Deployed loops test whether you can land enterprise knowledge search under real identity, connector, and adoption constraints — permission correctness and trust matter as much as recall.

Glean’s product promise collapses if permissions are wrong. Interviewers listen for whether you treat ACL fidelity as a first-class design constraint — not a post-launch fix.

Grading rubric

DimensionStrongWeak
Permission fidelityDesigns for SSO, groups, and source ACLs before ranking tweaksOptimizes recall first; “fix permissions later”
Connector realismKnows failure modes: rate limits, stale sync, partial corporaAssumes every system connects cleanly in week one
Trust & evalsDefines leak tests and golden queries as promotion gatesDemo wow without ACL regression checks
Scope controlOne department / one corpus family / one KPICompany-wide search day one
Adoption ownershipNames champions, enablement, and Day-2 ownersStops at “we turned on connectors”
CommunicationExplains quality limits without hiding failure modesOnly shows green queries on stage

Red flags

  • Treating ACL correctness as optional polish
  • Boiling the ocean across every SaaS connector before a thin slice
  • No plan for stale sync or partial corpus quality
  • Cannot explain how you would detect a cross-team document leak

Practice scenarios

  1. Engineering can search Confluence; Finance documents must stay sealed — design phase one.
  2. A demo returns a private HR doc — diagnose connectors, identity, and indexing path.
  3. Usage is low after go-live — what adoption levers do you pull before blaming the model?

Pair with Enterprise RAG, system design, decomp simulator, and Sierra FDE.

7-day prep plan

  1. Day 1–2 — Identity / ACL / connector failure-mode refresh
  2. Day 3 — Permission-aware search design drill
  3. Day 4 — Full customer rollout case
  4. Day 5 — Leak / quality eval gates
  5. Day 6 — Behavioral: security + exec communication
  6. Day 7 — Mock loop; score on the rubric

Comp context

Directional TC discussions often land around $180K–$330K. Details: Glean FDE salary hub. Peers: Sierra, Cohere.
